This is the only list I am on that is not on USENET. For one, I try not to support anything running on, or owned by, Microsoft, ie Yahoo.groups. for another, they routinely attach blurbs with every post. There is SPAM that gets thru the USENET filters, but it is not at least a part of the business. I wish I knew more about how USENET was setup, but I like the idea of a user based system. And, in the posts, I routinely see webpages referred to, so then - I need the browser. I've never run IE. I have tried Netscape on windoz, and see that it lacks some of the functionality of the Linux distros. And while Mandrake, BSD, Corel, and Debian all come with email tools, I was unable to get the setup right with them, but was successful with NTSC, so here I am.
