Well, if I expect to be clicking on webpages mentioned in newsgroup posts anyway, then I need a browser that will display the pages. And if a single app, like Ntscpe does both, then wouldnt it make sense to use it?
It's been a while since I used Nettamer, and when I did, I dont recall any way to paste a webpage from a post into say, the Arachne hotlist. But since more and more glitz got plastered onto webpages, Arachne crashed more and more often and told me it did not recognize the code. I think it's awful the crap that IE webmasters produce, but it aint upta me. With the old BBS software, the offline mail readers, most of them realized that ppl were using other tools, and thus they provided the utilities to transfer mail addies, BBS numbers (like a bookmark hotlist) and whatnot from one app to the new one they want you to try out. I dont see that sort of thing often anymore. Were I to make the switch to opera, not only would I havta figure out how to copy my preferences and addies, I'd havta also figure out how to setup a separate usenet reader, and copy my list of groups into that... prolly after downloading the 6meg master list. As for USENET itself, whatever the hardware is, or wherever, the lists are either unmoderated or obviously done so by some individual, rather than a commercial hosting service, which always uses it's perogatives to add spam and blurbs. And perhaps because a lotta users have no idea that it even exists, much less how to access it, the idiot ratio is a little lower.
