The NEWEST AND BEST Windows XP is off-topic on this list.
This list is for survivor PCs, their operating systems
and applications. DOS, Linux, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95
are all on-topic. Windows XP is not. Survivor PCs do
not run Windows XP.

*Installing* Linux on a survivor PC does require knowledge.
But there are several people on this list happy to help.
In fact, helping people to acquire knowledge is what this
list is for.

*Using* Linux on a properly installed and configured
computer is no more difficult than using a pre-installed
DOS or Windows. It is unfair to compare *installing*
Linux with *using* Windows.

Yeah, right. Spend hundreds of dollars giving XP a try.
Linux is free -- you can give it a try. XP costs big bucks
-- you try, you buy. Besides, my best computer is a 486
with 28meg RAM. Plenty powerful for Linux, but it would
be smothered to death by XP (that quivering pile of bloat).

Cheers,
Steven
