in EE times, some grad students from NC state have
started laying gallium on silicon. The max frequency
rate just went from 4 gig to 40. [1/14/2002]

Course 40 gig signals wont get into the valleys either.
but now I realize that they can use the 40gig to shape
the transmitter output curve. You dont havta put out a
sin wave at 120 or whatever meghertz any more. You can
make it sawtooth, or multipolar, quadrature, all kindsa
shapes which an ordinary FM or TV tuner would not be at
all able to lock on to.

It offers to change the definition of what 'bandwidth' is.
Look at the ingenuity applied to the 3k of POTS, which
fools around with phase angles, and you see a universe of
infinite 'channels' open up. There would be more than
enough for every person on the planet to have as many as
they wanted to keep track of, kinda like email eddies.

Gonna drive the Federal Intelligence agencies nuts too.
If you have 40gig precision, you can define a 100mhz curve
with 32bit resolution, based on the shape of any formula,
asymptotic, hyperbolic, multi-nodal, whatever. They would
havta figure out what curve your system was using with a
remote host. Like guessing the combination of a safe in a
few minutes. And you and your host can change to a new one
at any time. "Wire" tapping would be history.
