The tough thing about GUI stuff in Linux/Unix is it is almost all based
on X windows. And X windows is to me a wierd MIT creature that is
somewhere inbetween a very complicated shell and almost a special
purpose programming language.

It is hard to set gui things up to your taste with X windows unless you
know a lot. Part of the appeal of any CLI, is the nice uncluttered
single window, and a fairly simple batch or script language that can
do a whole lot, pretty simply.

Actually, I originally configured my DOS CLI to emulate the stuff in
Unix I liked! That is, I got TSRs that gave me Unix wildcards,
file management programs that let me move many files with different
names, etc. etc. I loved it when I found a Unix man command for dos what
was far better than Unix man.
