Hi Alejandro,
About "eList via SOUP/QWK OLMR" of February 9:

AL> ...have you tried Conex for DOS?
Oh yes, i have indeed... at least as soon as 1998, according to my
`PCTCP40b.360' GlueWare diskette-image file - as found in `PCTCP40.ZIP',
available on my ~WEB~ site (simply follow the "PC/TCP" link from my home
page and find out what i used it for exactly)! :) You need `DCF v5.3',
`DCFR v0.4' or `Turbo Image v1.00' to access that archive of mine... :)
Euh... An if i look at the story closer, i guess that was more like '95
since i started my `PC/TCP' Stand-Alone project three years before that;
Hummm... I have trouble remembering everything clearly and i suppose it
wasn't `Conex v7.7' back then but yes, lets say i tried `Conex' for DOS!
;-D
A few other valuable terminal emulators i discovered since then are
`Anzio' (supports a sub-set of the actual `Kermit' protocol), `GLink for
DOS' (the last time i checked the demo was available from the KellyGroup
site - had `Kermit' too), but more recently and not the least: `IVT', a
remarkable program because that's the 1st i ever tried which appeared to
address the `ZMoDem' over ~TelNet~ problem adequately. I got a link for
that one on my home page, naturally!... Only, the other solutions i had
in mind when i wrote my previous post were related to a totaly different
problem: i now have found how i can transfer .QWK mail via ~TelNet~, my
prefered way is using nothing but `{Commo} v7.7'+`RLFossil' (`ZMoDem' is
functional on selected BBSes - it's getting reliable on a growing number
of these). The problem i had in mind is mail format conversion but that
doesn't matter so much, i'm happy to jump on this opportunity to "share"
my various findings about LEGACY DOS InterNet/BBSing! Thanks Alejandro!
AL> This excellent telnet client does all my connections to a shell...
Well, there was a time when i recommended it for use with `PC/TCP'.
It happens hat its `ZMoDem' protocol can fail if used for BBSing, i have
found that `IVT' (which i first noticed about a year and a half ago), is
often capable of "compensating" for the inadequacy of a faulty BBS. One
catch with `IVT', as far as i'm concerned, is that `PC/TCP' or `NetBIOS'
are required and that means the ordinary LEGACY DOS people still doesn't
have a suitable INet/BBS terminal emulator to this day. Anyway, thanks!
Salutations, 8-)
