I have inherited an old 486 that has 2 processor slots (socket 3, I
believe, but not ziff :( ). Currently it has only 1 processor - a DX2 33,
I think. Since I've got loads of 486's lying around, I'm thinking about
popping in a second processor - a dual-processor 486! This would just be
for experimentation: the machines costed me nothing, and I wouldn't be
upset if the whole thing went up in flames (figuratively speaking, of
course). Having never done anything with dual-processor machines and
knowing little about them and how they work, I want to pose a question or
two here about it.

My first question has to do with the processors themselves. Do they have
to be an exact match? Must they be made by the same company (say, Intel),
or can they be "mixed and matched" (1 Intel and 1 AMD)? Need the speed
match? Say I want to use a DX2 66 in one slot: would the second slot need
also to be a DX2 66?

Any further pointers from anyone for someone who would like to experiment
a bit with dual processors on an old machine that is otherwise
unimportant?

Thanks, James
