I am attempting to compile the PCMCIA-CS package for use on BasicLinux,
I have found that the following additions and modifications are
necessary on BasicLinux for "make config" to work properly.

Install the compiler packages listed on the BasicLinux home page.
Add the echo command to /bin/
Create links for fgrep and egrep to busybox.

After the modifications the Configure script runs cleanly and the "make
all" no longer reports any missing header files. Those messages were
probably the result of Configure failing at some point.

I have attempted to compile the PCMCIA-CS package and am getting a lot
of warnings and eventually failure. To resolve some of these I had to;

Add gawk and link it to awk
Remove the chmod link from busybox and install the chmod binary.

I suspect that these modifications would be necessary to compile any
complex package. I suggest that these changes be added to the next
version of the hard drive install if it has not been done already or
possible included in the compiler How To for BasicLinux. I think the
links egrep and fgrep have been added ( only fgrep seems required for
this use ). The additional binaries are not large and would fit on
almost any imaginable hard drive.

I also now have a zip file of the /contents directory, which may be of
help to anyone trying something similar.

I am working on resolving the warnings and errors now. These seem
related to the Slackware source files. I would like to find some help
from old Slackware hands, as I think I'm probably covering old ground
here. Is there anyone on this list who has compiled packages against
BasicLinux who might be able to shed some light on compile problems or
is there somewhere I could look for more specific information. I have
the name of a some of newsgroups for slackware, pcmcia hardware and
linux portables, but don't know if anyone there would be able to help.

I'm posting this in the hope that someone finds it useful, either now or
in the future.
