It's really unfortunate that users are so reluctant to
participate in two-way communications. It is difficult
to get feedback even when offering anonymous multiple
choice forms with a 'send' button. I know, I've tried
several times.

No one really knows what legacy hardware is being used
out there. People mention that they have an 80386 or
whatever then some time later tell you the powersupply
is gone or going and they can't see spending the time
or money to fix them.

I wonder how many 80486s out there have only 8 megs?
80486 laptops might have been only 8 megs but the
'486 desktop I have here has 16 megs in it and it seems
many/most 80486 desktops do have 16 megs? I don't really
claim to know, I'm just surmising from reading people who
discuss having one. :-\

If there was a way to know what is the 'standard' configuration
of a typical '486 it might make this easier for you to do. :-)

Not being sarcastic here but people with cable modems may
not be the same people who would bother to keep a '486
operational for very long (if they even have one)?

Would help if I could but even though I do have enough
network cards to setup an intranet I have never bothered.
Probably for the same reason I don't think '486 users have
cable modems. My machines die off at the rate of one per
year and I guess I just don't think it's worth the effort
to network them?

Not sure I understand what you mean in the above paragraph?
The BL2 won't network unless they also download additional
modules of SlackWare71, or am I misunderstanding what you are
saying here?
