>From a local list I'm on... Interesting effort to bring computing and
the Internet into less developed areas. Interesting that they're after
400MHz plus systems, and no mention of OS specifics etc. Still, a
worthwhile cause by the sound of it.

Subject: non profit project in Sierra Leone, Africa

Greetings,

This past November I was pleased to be a part of a team of people who
traveled to Sierra Leone, Africa to help a non-profit group (Gospel
Recordings) setup an Internet Cafe. The purpose of the project was to
provide the startup costs and expertise for the local missionaries with
Gospel Recordings so they could provide a place for the citizens of
Freetown to use email and to provide computer training for anyone who
wanted to learn. Unfortunately I think the whole country only has 128k
bandwidth. I've never been on such a slow connection. But, I've heard
the computer training has really taken off.

They are requesting more computers, as we were only able to carry over 8
computers in our luggage. If anyone has computers they would like to
donate for this effort it would be greatly appreciated. Please, only
computers that are at least 400mhz and above. No monitors are needed,
it's better for them to get their own monitors because of the weight for
shipping. Also, if anyone has any connections with shipping companies
that would help us get them over there that would be great as well.
They haven't specifically asked for it, but I would like to find at
least two decent laptops for them as well for the manager and director.
Their names are Tinke and Sirajin.

Thanks for your time.
