I have 9 computers (plus assorted vintage laptops) up and running, and several of them were 'finds' let out next to the trash on garbage pick-up day, plus a couple purchased for under $10.00 at garage sales. >From some of the non-working computers that I found in the trash, I was able to rescue HD's and other cards, parts, etc., to spruce up the working machines. Hard Drives and memory SIMMs/ DIMMs are the easiest things to add on, as most of the time, they are recognised automatically by older computers. The only problems I have encountered, were that when I added a 'found' HD to an older computer, was 1) that I had to buy a power doubler, because my machine was out of power connectors, and 2) After the HD was recognised, the CD-ROM was no longer recognised, which I fixed by reinstalling OS/2. While I was at it, I also picked up a old Bernoulli Drive and SCSI interface card, and about 30 90MB Bernoulli cartridges on eBay, and hooked that up, too, to help with the overcrowding and back-up problems, too. -wittig http://www.robertwittig.com/ A business is as honest as its advertising. .
