Ok then,exactly,what application are you using to do your
text editing ?.
Most stuff can be done in X the way i said,but if you are 
using these massive text files in term windows,then why ?.
you could be selective and use sed,or grep and pipe them
into another file like that,and use bash`s ctr`l & r reverse
search mode to keep on top of re-typing loads of frequenty
used commands.
