Ahh, vi !!
Mouse paste works (vi in xterm) to netscape.
This is of no use to you with large files though.
But i realise now what you are getting at.
You can as you know yank all the lines in the file with y]]
but this this only saves to an internal buffer,much like emacs.
If there was a way to get one of these buffers to the clipboard
you would be in business.

You can use grep,sed etc from within vi,but i don`t think it`ll solve
your problem.I figured you wanted to do selective text search,unless you
write
very large emails.
I also didn`t realise that you were working from within vi.
