Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you. But
I have since found that each distro has its strong
points. SuSE makes an awesome workstation, but
trying to make it into a gateway with DHCP is a losing
proposition. (I patted myself on the back yesterday
for setting SuSE up just like this. I rebooted it
many times to prove it will work from ground zero,
and 18 hours later, it's dead. No DHCP, won't
init eth0, no routing.) Red Hat, on the other hand,
handles DHCP with a mouse click. Throw in LinuxConf
(which works in text mode and GUI) and the marketing
(smell the money and the future), and I feel the
pull, drawing me back into its clutches.

In this country (USA), Red Hat rules, and SuSE is
third (or fourth, depending on the survey). I
have only so much resources, so I think I'm going
to have to focus on the future.

Just remember the 20th century paradigm: Build a better
mousetrap, and 1) I'll see you in court; 2) I'll buy
the rights to it and shelve it; 3) I'll boost my
marketing efforts and squash it.
