Hello all, Thanks so much for the insight. I recompilled with the print stuff as modules and then played with the port assignments. It turns out that 2.2.2 sees the (previous kernels) /dev/lp1 as /dev/lp0, just a reassignment of ports, problem solved. I had a problem with fetchmail also. I don't use imap, only pop3 so the way I have networking set up in the kernel conflicts with the out of the box config of fetchmail when it does its check of protocalls. Solution; wrote .fetchmailrc in /home/username something like this... poll pop.ispname.whatever proto pop3 user username pass password fetchall Just sub in your isp, username and password, then issue fetchmail at the command line and all is well. The imap protocall is bypassed. I just wanted to post this in an effort to contribute back to the group. Hope it helps someone. Thanks again, Mike BTW the performance boost and the learning/insite experience is well worth the minor difficulties a kernel newbie like myself may experience. I've been using Linux for a few years due to it's stability and for me, stability alone was enough to stick with it. After doing this kernel upgrade and 'seeing' some of the nuts and bolts of the os I am convinced that it is the only way to fly. As for SuSE, I have tried just about every distro and IMHO you guys are tops as far as integrating everything into a tight package and holding back until you've got it right(glibc and such). My two cents ;-). - To get out of this list, please send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/ and the archive at http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html
