Thank you dizzy for your prompt reply. Your web site is awesome with great Linux helpful links. Great job! I've setup everything on the Win95 clients as you've described. I just figured I didn't configure something properly on my Linux box. Just because I have IP forwarding/firewall/masquerading built into my kernel, don't I have to setup the Linux box properly such that my Win95 clients can successfully ping eachother OR ping hosts past the gateway on 192.168.1.1? Perhaps the info on: http://www.techlinks.com/helpme.txt wasn't helpful. Thanks everyone for your help, nonetheless. I'll keep fighting through this. Remember, my Linux box can ping any of my win95 clients successfully. It's just the other way around. The only thing my wi95 clients can ping is the gateway at 192.168.1.1 (i.e. eth1) where eth0 is my card connected to my ADSL router On Sat, 27 Mar 1999, dizzy wrote: > Have you sent up networking for the card on win 95? > Did you add a tcp/ip adapter for the eth card in 95? > > eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:C0:F0:32:05:03 > inet addr:192.168.1.1 Bc > > you should have an ip on 95 such as 192.168.1.X where X would be another # s > set the eth card on 95 in network tcp/ip properties > ip address specify address 192.168.1.2 add subnet 255.255.255.0 > disable wins configuration > gateway your linux ip # > DNS your providers DNS #s > Host you 95 machine name (as it apears in network neghiborhood) > domain your providers domain name > reboot 95 and you should be able to ping and ftp telnet etc from 95 to linnux > also, ip masq and firewall are included in the 5.3 stock kernel > (not sure if this will work for you... but it works for me ;-) > have fun > rob > Linux Home page http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm > > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > ...after recompiling my kernel with IP Forwarding and Masquerading > > support.
