Install the Nvidia Detonator drivers.  They have the necessary gamma
controls.  I haven't personally experienced any problems with out-of-the box
settings.

Until there is some sort of OpenGL implementation in the Xfree drivers,
we'll just have to live with slow *nix quake performance.
