That is odd, I am on a machine that has up to j with no special config on my part.
Have you checked your SCSI terminiation? In the /dev dir do you have device entries for more then sdh? I have 256 entries. If for some reason you do not have these entries, you should be able to create them with the MAKEDEV script in /dev.
