We've all been there before.

BSEE myself.

Sparc 20 is nice, but my 50Mhz unit is rather pokey. You may have much
better luck with the 150mhz processor. These things are rock solid for
servers or simple workstations. They're very efficient w/ RAM though it
looks like that's not an issue on your machine. You're one of the lucky few
w/ vsimm for your tgx+ frame buffer. My SS20 is not so lucky, I have a CG6
unit in mine so colors are limited to 256 color.

I'm not sure about tgx+ support in Xfree86. Try it, if no support, pick up a
spare CG6 someplace & you'll have good, relatively quick graphics.

With your big 9.1 G hard drive, install both KDE and Gnome along with
WindowMaker and Blackbox. Set Windowmaker as your default until you get
things "setup". Once you know your way around, reconfigure SuSE to have KDE
as your desktop, you'll notice the difference in speed (KDE slower but
"richer"). If speed of KDE is OK, then keep it (or try Gnome). If it's too
much, stick with Windowmaker, you can still run KDE & Gnome apps within
Windowmaker. Windowmaker is only your "desktop" software. It controls how
the desktop & windows work, but doesn't dictate what you can/can't run.

With a couple of long weekend nights pounding away at the keyboard, you'll
be an expert in no time. Learn to love the text-only console. You can do
anything from there. And almost anything configurable is in /etc as text
files.
