I'm attaching an e-mail I received a while ago about very similar problems,
maybe this will help you. I never quite got around to trying the fixes as
other things kept creeping up and it just sits on my to-do list to try out.
Anyway, here's the e-mail I had lying around, its from Jonathan Zimmerman

I get the same error no matter which host I try. I wonder if there could be

some version issues in yast2 with 7.3. Since I installed it, when I try and

install more packages each time it asks for a different CD it complains
about
the version number not being quite right. Since I'm assuming it's dependant

on the version number to find the patches dir, maybe the problems are
related. Any thoughts?
