*Do You Know What's In Your Watershed?* The Community Science Institute will be holding the third event in the "What's in Your Watershed?" lecture series, focusing on Six Mile Creek.
* * *What: Six Mile Creek - What's In Your Watershed?* *When: Wednesday, June 5th, 7:00 PM* *Where: Caroline Town Hall, 2670 Slaterville Road, Caroline* This event will highlight the current water quality issues in Six Mile Creek. Despite its name, the creek is actually 17 miles long and flows through parts of Dryden, Caroline, Ithaca and Danby. Six Mile Creek is the source of drinking water for the City of Ithaca. Erosion issues have become a point of interest for many citizens, particularly since damage from 2011 Tropical Storms led to the need for major bank restabilization in several locations along the creek. Presentations will address questions like, "How much sediment is in Six Mile Creek?", "What can towns, neighborhoods and citizens do to prevent stream bank erosion?" and "What kind of aquatic life is supported in Six Mile Creek?". Speakers will include Angel Hinickle, Stormwater specialist at Tompkins County Soil & Water, Roxanna Johnston, City of Ithaca Drinking Water Plant, a representative from the Caroline Watershed Committee and CSI volunteers. The Community Science Institute has partnered with volunteers to monitor Six Mile Creek since 2004. Volunteers sample 14 locations in the Six Mile Creek watershed. All results are published in the CSI database online at http://communityscience.org/database<http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunityscience.org%2Fdatabase&h=NAQGJhxcR&s=1>. CSI's work is funded in part by the Town of Caroline and Tompkins County. A special thank you goes out to the Town of Caroline for hosting this event.
