You are right, it is a part of the containment techniques, so it does not 
leak at final disposal sites. It is not the things that you want to 
continue to use. Maybe it can be done in the future, we do not know. At the 
moment, you do not want those balls.

Sweden did however develop neighborhood reactors, 30 years ago, very safe 
and with low grade fuel and low temperatures, mainly central hot water 
production for heating applications. It was abandoned as a result of the 
Swedish referendum against nuclear power stations. The Japanese are now 
reintroducing the idea and are looking for the first test production sites 
in Canada.
