Hello Markus,

Thank you for your feedback.

Please note that since recently there is a 360K build of SvarDOS, although it is not advertised on the main page yet:

The keyboard driver idea may be a good one indeed. A simple way to verify it would be to hit F5 when SvarDOS boots. This would skip CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT processing, so it would make it possible to pin point the problem easier.

cheers,
Mateusz

Hi Svardos Team,

first, I found it amazing that you develop a modern'ish OS for ancient PCs. I do love my Amstrad PC1640, and during the pandemic, it became a hoppy.

Quick feedback on Svardos on the ancient Amstrad. The install went through fine, although the complication for me was that these very old PCs only have 360k floppy disks. So I had to work with a hardware emulator. Also, I had the feeling that the installer was faster as long as it was running on top of a DOS 5.0 kernel, and then slower under the SVARDOS one.

Once I booted the SVARDOS however, the system crashed the computer, the moment the command prompt appeared. There is nothing I managed to do to prevent it. I'm not sure, but I have the impression the crash is caused by the first key I smash on the keyboard. Pure speculation, but it could be the keyboard driver. For me, unfortunately it means I can't so far do anything with Svardsos, but hope this helps for tracing bugs.

all the best,

Markus
