I spoke with Wikipedia developers yesterday !! (at Holland Open conf. in Amsterdam) to get them to allow SVG as content.
Though they liked the idea they had a (security)problem with, but no solution implemented yet for, javascript possibly being contained in the SVG. If there's more people asking them for it (which would be the case when we want 'our' wiki to go there), or maybe even SVG people helping them out, that of course could help. And when the option is there, it means extra exposure for SVG. So i like your idea.
