Hi,

I can confirm that SVG import/export improved substantially with Illustrator
CS2.

Element primitives are supported, symbol definitions are exported as SVG
symbols and
patterns are exported as SVG patterns. Also there is now an option to disable
kerning
when exporting text to avoid having a lot of tspan elements within the text
element. CS2
also exports SVG fonts and cleanly exports text on path, which was previously
exported as
individual glyphs.

I also like the possibility to export to a tiny or basic profile.

I can also confirm that roundtripping already works to certain extent, e.g.
elements in a
certain namespace are preserved when importing SVG and can be exported again.

So, if you work a lot with SVG I would really recommend that you invest the
money and
upgrade to CS2.

There are, however, problems when importing SVG files with a viewBox coordinate
system
that does not match a traditional paper sizes, as it is usually used in
mapping. Those files
cannot import at all (I see the imported elements in the layer manager, but
they don't
show up in the graphics canvas). I also had some stroke-width problems when
importing
elements in a viewBox coordinate system.

I sent these files with a bug report to Adobe and hope that these import
problems will be
solved in either a dot release (if there is any) or the next major version.

Andreas
