Hi, 
 
you can also try to convert your font using fontforge, an open 
source font converter. I had good results using this tool. Also, the 
newest Illustrator CS and the latest CorelDraw packages can export 
SVG fonts. 
 
Of course it would be good, if Batik would properly convert that as 
well, 
 
Instead of using SVN/compile that batik sources you can also use the 
nightly builds (http://svn.apache.org/builds/xml-batik/) - which are 
pre-compiled binaries of the SVN version. You can run these versions 
with the JRE and don't need the full JDK.
