I like Eclipse for the XML source editting, but of course you need some plugins... I think the XML editor is part of the web standard tools plugin. There's also a new SVG editor plugin which might be better. I don't recommend the Compound Document Editor plugin though.
Eclipse is nice because it integrates all the other stuff you'll need and does a decent job with the XML part. It's been a steep learning curve for me though.
