SVG animation allows you to do interactivity. It is a part of every profile 
(even 1.1 Tiny, the smallest official version of SVG) and is supported by 
Opera, the Adobe plugin, and mobile viewers, but not yet in Firefox or Safari 
and I am not sure where it is up to in Batik.

There is a tutorial I wrote on simple animation which shows (towards the end)
