Hi,

Yes I'm replying to myself.  I thought I'd let you know that I've now tried 
multiple nested g and svg elements, my amimated filter, javascript, clip paths, 
use elements, yes referencing the same path (and circle) element with the 
clipPath element and the use element to which it was applied.  I've tried them 
in various combinations. Still can't replicate the bug!  There's obviously at 
least one factor that I'm missing.  I'll have to look at the one frame with a 
hot zone that does work and think what it lacks that almost all the others have 
(I know it has turbulence filters for a start so that's not it).
