Thanks again for the responses to this thread. This is just to round it off.
All problems are now solved. I've corrected the files so that they display correctly in IE9, and uploaded them. @j.tosovsky: I blush to say that I had not yet installed the plugin. Had a lot of other things on my mind when I started this thread. :-) Windows installed both the 64bit and 32bit versions of IE on my 64bit system, but uses the 32bit version by default. The only way I can see to start the 64bit version is to choose it directly from the 'programs' menu. Adding a <DOCTYPE ...> directive to the top of my file forced both Firefox and IE9 to reinterpret/ignore the top and left attributes associated with the link and flash player (position="absolute"). Both browsers put these objects on top of each other somewhere near (0,0). The link was therefore unusable. Solution was to use position="fixed" and define appropriate margins from (0,0). Facit: Well worth the trouble. Music scores have lots of long, thin horizontal lines, and I like IE9's antialiasing very much. Using magnification leads to odd behaviour for the flash player but, in IE9, clicking the enlarged player restores it to its original size so that it can be used again. It would, of course be even better if IE9 provided support for the HTML5 <audio> tag, and better still if the audio tag could play MIDI files (on the native synthesizer), and better still if the MIDI output could be routed to an external device...
