You can get the current position of an animated or otherwise transformed element by using the method "getCTM()." This function will return the "current transformation matrix" of the element. This will require a bit of reading to understand, but the returned SVGMatrix object contains the translation coordinates of the elements as well as other transforms such as rotation.
This becomes handy when you are transforming elements and also animating them to further transform them. You can always be sure you have the correct coordinates no matter what is happening to the element.
