I've beefed a bit lately about the battle for cross-browser applications. In theory, the browser is the perfect answer, I've argued, to a lot of web development work, but it's been difficult (thanks in part at least to Microsoft). So, how's the HTML5 world shaping up. Too early to tell if many browser implementations are irregular (back to square one?), so let's assume they'll all eventually support the standard properly so that one direct standard web page is always going to work in every browser (that you'd care about).
Generally speaking, how do you like HTML5 so far? Is it as great as I imagine it to be? Does it look like it can help make development of real browser applications easier (practical)? Personally, I've been putting so much time into my server work lately that I haven't really gotten into HTML5, even though it's been my great hope for the future for a while.
