I've run a test on the files you've sent and test code works fine, I couldn't 
find any unexpected characters in the files. What I've noticed is that you're 
using GCJ, not Oracle (Sun) JVM. This might be the reason of the problem. Could 
you please make sure that Sun JVM is used by your hook and check whether 
problem persists.
