Tom,
I take a different approach to spyware, one that
you might find useful. I use Norton Ghost to make an image (a sector by sector
snapshot) of my C drive (or Windows partition, depending if you have only a
single drive) that contains the latest drivers and apps for my hardware. My
actual data, i.e. documents, e-mail folders, art, etc, gets stored on a separate
drive (or partition). My Windows installation is configured to look to my data
drive before I make the Ghost image. Every few months (or weeks, depending how
much I've messed around with my machine in the interim) I simply use the Ghost
imag, which I created before the spyware got the chance to install itself
on my machine, to replace my C drive. My installation is once again
fresh and hassle free.
Of course, there is still the possibility that
malware will get saved to your data drive (or partition) but that's the risk I
take. I use Ad-aware, etc to check my drives for an extra level of
protection,
Chris
