While it is a little off-topic I can't help but throw in my $0.02...

LavaSoft is excellent. Spybot seek & destroy is also excellent. A previous post had both links.

My father recently had a problem (dozens of spybots), and now he runs both. One will find ones the other won't. No complaints, both free, no issues that I know of.

Since I run OS X, I'm immune to 95% of all spyware :) Except cookies, and I flush those periodically.

Also, Pc-Cillin (http://www.trendmicro.com) for Internet Security or somesuch now has integrated spyware scanning, plus a firewall, and virus scanner. IMHO its the best package for a PC hands down. Download the trial first then register it and I think you save $10 (it used to be that way, not sure if it still is).

And last, run a web browser (Mozilla, Safari, whatever) that has integrated popup-blocking. Anything but IE. Spare yourself some pain before it starts.

take a different approach to spyware, one that you might find useful. I use Norton Ghost to make an image

I use Ghost to backup my C: drive too occasionally. I actually have partitions C-M. C: is about 7GB and my backup drive is 7GB so works perfectly. VERY important to do this, believe me, if anyone does NOT have backup HD they should get one (HDs are cheap, can pickup 80GB at ebay for $50-60). I have used it a lot when trying "interesting" installations or are having problems.
