swfobject has the "addDomLoadEvent()" function, which you can use for this. You don't need to use jquery.

It's really strange the way things work around here. If I had a few days I'd tell you. ;-) In any case it does seem to work correctly in IE/Safari with the alt content as well. Just FF is being a pest..
