If I recall correctly, it is also necessary to include:

<meta name="content-object-type" content="application/x-shockwave-
flash" />

in the header of the XHTML document served as application/xml+xhtml.
This additional code prepares all non-IE browsers properly for the non-
IE SWFObject 2.2 <object> subroutine.
