@Simon - You are using a 5 year+ old version of SWFObject which is not supported any more. Please update to version 2.x and read the current docs and FAQ for SWFObject.
The xml file you are using for your gallery component is nothing to do with SWFObject, so we cannot offer you any help there. The Dreamweaver IDE offers a live view of your HTML page where you do get WYSIWYG editing etc. Go try out the 30 trial... Getting a Flash Object to align / positioned on the page is a CSS / HTML issue. It is the same as any other element on a web page such as an image etc. The only caveat (as Sam already mentioned is that you should create a wrapper <div> and style that, rather than styling the replacement/alt content div). Outside of that, this list is not meant as a generalist HTML / js / css forum, so if you are having troubles there, I suggest you ask in a relevant forum.
