Yes, even the Mac OS X Beta has a fairly complete and modern J2SE.
Some things don't work (drag&drop) but for the most part it works as
expected. This is not so shocking as Mac OS X is really BSD Unix under
the covers with the slick Mac GUI on top. Mac OS 9 users may NEVER get
Java 2 support but Mac OS X (ships end of March) users should enjoy the
same level of Java support as Win/Solaris/Linux users.

This has been a promise for many, many years but I for one will wait
and see what actually ships. Apple could be a strong ally in the Java
push (especially with MS trying to get developers to JUMP elsewhere) but
I suspect Apple (my former employer) will continue to push its own APIs
and development tools and not put much effort into Java.

    We will see... CCC

P.S.: It would be really cool to see Apple port the Finder to Java.
