Hello,

I have been a listener for years to a series of techie radio networks (W0KIE,
Skybird, Skyscanner) that started on TVRO and were one of the first to do web
streaming. The internet presence is mainly through Radio Free Dishnuts. Dave
Marthouse, formerly of Spectrum, knows several of the people involved. I still
chat on IRC during various shows. Show hosts and listeners are mostly on
Twitter and link back to Facebook. So another universe merges into my Facebook
athough a couple of them have attended the Fest. I have mentioned the Fest on
IRC and various shows. They have moved on from Facebook to Twitter and it
seems I am trailing behind.

I am following news stories about the Green Movement in Iran, in particular
about the use of services like Facebook and Twitter. That is some serious use
of Twitter. Mobile Phones and SMS are very popular with the young people in
Iran, much like Europe and Japan. Satellite TV is banned yet I see photographs
of dishes openly on balconies and roofs. It seems the Iranian government was
caught out and is trying to catch up. It is interesting to compare it with
China. China seems to have better control, but then Communist governments have
been controlling access to communications for years.
