If it's a modern hotel they probably use magstripe keycards, which
don't have the room number printed on them because they re-encode
them after you check out. Even Kulpsville has those things for many
years. So Doubletree either uses some other method of authentication
to thwart unauthorized breakfast-eaters from using your ticket, or
the desk clerk was just blowing smoke. Any other theories?

I don't know how they authenticate that the breakfast coupon
presenter is the registered guest, but the clerk told me they do
