Thank you to everyone who attended the private screening of the film Saturday afternoon. We had a packed theater--maybe the free hot popcorn and drinks helped with that! Is there any interest in screening another radio-related film at next year's SWLfest? Perhaps it could become a new 'fest tradition: a Saturday matinee radio movie before dinner. (Sorry the sound and acoustics weren't better; we can do better if there's a next time.)

The film makers told me they really enjoyed screening their film for us, and they appreciated all your feedback. Any additional film feedback posted to this list will be forwarded to them, so if you didn't get a chance to talk with film makers, please feel free to make comments here and I'll pass them along. Just a reminder, please don't post the name of the film online in connection with this private screening. The director told me that could hurt the film's success in the film festival circuit and in later wider distribution.

I thought it was great fun seeing the SWLfest and its denizens entertainingly portrayed on the silver screen ably helping complete strangers solve a decades-old mystery. It's really a testament to our relatively small group's knowledgeability and resourcefulness, and the power of our radio community. If it wasn't so well documented in the film, how everything played out would seem like implausible fiction!

As this film gets wider distribution (in theaters soon and on Netflix and DVD this summer) a relatively large number of people will be exposed to our obscure radio community and its annual gathering. So we might have a bigger attendance for our 25th SWLfest, as well as having more people interested in SWL'ing and (gasp!) pirate broadcasting. Stranger things have happened!

Cheers,

-Ed Cummings
