When I was a kid in Binghamton I had a small crystal radio in a rocket
format {clip to brass bed, nose cone screwed out to change frequency} that I
used to listen to MW stations all over the east coast, and WWVA Wheeling
WV!  I vividly remember one evening in the early 60's when WKBW broke in
with an announcement about the deaths of several babies at Binghamton
General Hospital.  WKBW beat the local TV stations by about 3 - 4 minutes.
