Here's more info about this victory for community
radio, and Prometheus Radio Project's press
release. They're definitely a cause worth
supporting if you care about community radio stations.

WE WON!
On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
Third Circuit issued its long-awaited verdict in
Prometheus Radio Project v. the Federal
Communications Commission, rejecting the FCCs
attempt to further deregulate media
ownership.<http://prometheusradio.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=637&qid=102155>

This is the second major victory this year for
the Prometheus Radio Project, whose ten-year
effort to pass legislation expanding community
radio succeeded when President Obama signed the
bipartisan Local Community Radio Act into law on
January 4. The law will result in thousands of
new community radio stations, and the FCC will
be accepting applications for stations as early as next summer.
Both victories are the result of widespread,
bipartisan grassroots organizing led by people
like you. Today we need your support more than ever.
In the next 12-24 months thousands of new
community radio stations will be licensed,
dramatically shifting the media landscape as we
know it. For the first time, low -power
stations will be available in urban areas where
their small signal can reach tens of thousands
of people. And so we ask, what would you do
with a radio station? Would you broadcast more
of what you hear now on the radio or something
else? This is an important question and an
historic moment when your response can have great impact.
Next week the FCC will propose new rules that
determine how to allocate the remaining open
radio channels in urban areas. Some channels
will go to translators, small stations that
repeat the signals of existing stations more
of what you hear now in more places. But were
fighting to make sure that channels also go to
new stations that run directly by our
communities - featuring new and emerging
artists, exposing corruption and offering opposing viewpoints.
Prometheus has been there, working to ensure
that the FCC decides in favor of more voices,
not just more of the same. And we are working
with<http://prometheusradio.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=638&qid=102155>
volunteers nationwide to mobilize groups who
want to apply for stations. In short, we are
doing what we have done for the past 12 years
working to shape the future of community
radio. You too, can be a part of this sea change.

more just media.

today so that you hear something different when
you turn on the radio.
today because media matters it is a tool that
can allow neighbors to connect, share local news
and events, and participate in decisions that impact our lives.
Working together we have accomplished much, but
in many ways our work has just begun. Your
support today will help ensure that victories
like the one on Thursday continue. Together we
can amplify the voices of many. Prometheus is
building the future of community
media.
