Yes, please bring your Elad FDM-S2 and laptop computer to the
SWLfest. I'm sure quite a few festers would like to see and hear it
in action. We'll have a monitoring post set up in the presidential
suite (hospitality suite) with rooftop access to antennas, and a
multicoupler. If anyone has a decent antenna switch, please bring it!

Some SDR hardware also provide a standard API through an External
Interface DLL. The allows usage of the same hardware with multiple
PC SDR programs, and the same PC SDR program with multiple SDR hardware.
One recent thread on the Elad list discussed using a RDS decoder
with the Elad FDM-S2 to receive FM stations via Meteor Scatter. The
DXer records a 5 MHz chuck of the FM spectrum, and plays it back
multiple times looking for the busts. A program like RDS Spy is used
to see if the RDS can be decoded to identify the station.

Before I bought my Elad FDM-S2, I downloaded the software and 4GB!
of spectrum recordings from DK8OK. I was able to figure out the
software before I got the radio. It was interesting to hear what
listening was like in Europe, like no WWV on 10 MHz.

Now there are even more digital modes. It is amazing how you can
recognize digital signals by how they sound. I can identify various
trunked radio control channels on VHF/UHF/800 by how they sound as well.
