Driving to the 'fest through central NJ?

This note is to expand on the comment about the bridge closure.

The bridge connecting the two turnpikes is closed in both directions. For
the current advisories, check the home pages of
http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/ and https://www.paturnpike.com -- the
information is easier to find on the NJTP page. Both websites have traffic
status information and cameras.

As the situation now exists, a section of the failed beam (under the
westbound roadway) has been sent to Lehigh Univ for analysis. Repairs won't
begin until the report is received. Temporary towers are being erected. A
portion of Radcliffe Street, a local street on the PA side along the river
running between Bristol and Tullytown, passing almost directly under the
crack, is closed until further notice. US 13 is open.

Once the repairs are made -- I'm reading two weeks -- the entire bridge
will be examined. I'm from Missouri. I don't believe the estimate.
Government efficiency. It wouldn't surprise me if it is two months before
the bridge reopens...

The closest adjacent bridge is the old two lane Burlington-Bristol Bridge
just south of the turnpike bridge. From 50 years of living in the immediate
area and using the bridge over the years, I can assure you traffic is at
best bad and at worst a bad nightmare. I would avoid it and its approaches,
especially during rush hours. With the turnpike bridge out of service, I
have no words to describe the mess.

>From the NYC area I would take the I95 loop around the north side of
Trenton (into PA) onto US1 south and get on the PATP at exchange #351. From
southern NJ, one of the two bridges south of Philadelphia may be best. I'll
probably use the Betsy Ross Bridge and wiggle across ne Philly to US1 and
PATP 351.

For road warriors here is a very useful smartphone app that I've been using
for almost a year, covering NJ and the surrounding area up to the NYC area,
eastern PA north to above the end of the PATP extension, and probably
northern DE. I've used it on trips to Schenectady and York Harbor (Maine).
Traffic and construction alerts can be limited to a mileage radius in 10
mIle increments from 10 to 50, plus 75 and 100. Info:

Information Logistics -- http://www.ilogcorp.com/ -- makes a version for PA
and elsewhere.

Happy driving. Giddyup.
