I miss the DoubleTree. When I first walked into the place thought it was too classy for us 'festers! The central gathering courtyard (with full bar) and free breakfast and meeting rooms worked well for us. I never asked management for permission for roof access, but (if one were to know such things) co-conspirators and I always managed to surreptitiously gain access and discreetly string dipoles and other antennas up there and drop feedlines down to the Presidential Suite's balcony and into our Hospitality Room with banks of amazing radio receivers--and enough room for hanging out with refreshments. It was perfect!

We all have special memories there, but one of my favorites is the special secret pre-screening of the Sundance award-winning documentary film, "Resurrect Dead: The Mystery Of The Toynbee Tiles" at the March 2011 SWLFest--with the film director and a proper popcorn machine! Parts of that film were shot at the 2006 Winter SWL Fest, where several 'festers played key roles in pivotal sequences that led to the solving of a decades-old mystery: the identification and motives of a strange and obscure 1980's pirate shortwave broadcaster whose bizarre and mysterious messaging campaign was the subject of the film.

If you've never seen this superb mystery film, it's worth checking out (now streaming online for free). You'll see several vintage scenes from the SWLfest with several vintage SWLfesters..
