I hope they will relent. Even if I actively disagree with their
Majority text position, people holding this position have been known for
disliking copy rights too.

Unless we actually get permission from copy rights holders (SBT and
SBP sound good for the moment, I will try IBB again as sson as the situation
in our site is sorted out), or we decide for an even older text (not a good
option).

Not quite. ARC 1911 is still used a lot, with only orthographical
updating. Simple orthography checking and global search and replace would
bring it to the current level of the text in usage in many Pentecostal and
Fundamentalist churches. If we can’t get SBT’s texts, it would be a second
best for Majority text believers.
Now Tradução Brasileira is quite another thing. It is already based
on the Minority Text (‘best texts in Greek and Hebrew’ as they became known in
Brazil, due to Versão Revisada’s full name), if memory doesn’t fail me Nestlé
and Alland. Its Portuguese is quite modern and Brazilian, unlike Revista and
Atualizada’s Portugal-like (‘lusitanizante’) language. It would be a net
improvement over both Almeidas in greater usage in Brazil now (the ‘Revistas’
— Revista e Corrigida, and Revista e Atualizada), and practically on par with
Versão Revisada or, perhaps, even Almeida Século XX of which only the New
Testament was published yet. It only needs orthography updating.

Last time I checked, only Clara was meant for such usage. There is
gOCR, but it does not seem adequate for such massive projects. Perhaps asking
around Clara’s mailing lists would help? You may even ask in Portuguese, I
seem to remember it is a Brazilian project.
Also I seem to remember there was a project being done on code donated
by HP. It may be useable already, googling for it would be interesting.
Finally, we can either try to buy something proprietary for GNU/Linux,
or ask MS Windows or Mac users to do the work for us.

I just contacted the webmaster, he reinstated the TIFFs but in a
slightly different page. I forget exactly the URL, and can’t check now, but
it should be there already; if not, just ask nicely the webmaster again.
