Thanks Karl, So the solution is to rebuild the ASV module, making sure first that the text source is thorough checked for unmatched pairs of any kind of markup (or even punctuation) that should be paired.
I will pursue this with Kahunapule Michael Johnson, who supplied the ASV source text. He's moving all his source to USFM, but the task is not yet completed.
