Fair point, David, but what I was thinking about was hardware, support, etc. not software in the case of Apple. You may be able to think of other (better) examples. Pure Digital is a "closed" system and I am not aware that I could offer a competing directory provider accessible by the radio, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know?
